# Puff roadmap

Puff is a menu bar pet for macOS that reacts to your Mac's real vitals. https://puff.qubixcode.com

## Shipped

In the app today.

- **11 moods from real sensors** (1.0): Puff reads CPU, fans, heat, memory, battery, disk writes and frozen apps every few seconds. Every mood has a real cause.
- **A reason for every mood** (1.0): Click Puff to see why it feels that way, like "CPU's been maxed 2 min" or which app stopped responding, plus live numbers if you want them.
- **Four creatures** (1.0): Blob, Cat, Egg and Robot. Same moods, different personalities.
- **Personality settings** (1.0): Calm, Normal or Dramatic sensitivity, and switches for which sensors Puff reacts to.
- **Daily mood card** (1.0): Puff keeps a small mood diary on your Mac and turns any day into a shareable card.
- **Optional sounds** (1.0): Tiny synthesized chirps when Puff panics, gets dizzy or calms down. Off by default.
- **Automatic updates** (1.0): New versions install from inside the app. Signed and notarized by Apple.
- **Private by design** (1.0): No account, no tracking. Your Mac's readings never leave it, and it keeps working offline.

## Next

Being built now, in this order.

- **Who's making Puff sweat?** (1.1): The busiest apps right in Puff's popover, with how much CPU each one is using.
- **Quit from the popover** (1.1): Quit a busy app with one click, or force quit the app that froze when Puff gets dizzy.
- **Smarter reasons** (1.1): Panic and sweat messages name the app responsible, like "Chrome is using 180%".

## Later

Wanted, not scheduled yet. Tell us what you'd use most.

- **Busiest app of the day**: Your daily mood card shows which app kept Puff busiest.
- **More creatures**: New skins to pick from, with the same moods.
- **Freeze history**: Puff already counts how often it got dizzy each day. Next: remember which apps froze, so you can see the repeat offenders.
- **A keepsake for every panic**: Asked for on X: keep a shell piece each time the egg cracks, and an all-time count of panics your Mac survived.

## Not planned

Things we've decided not to build, and why.

- **A Mac App Store version**: Reading fan speeds needs hardware access the App Store sandbox doesn't allow, so Puff is sold directly.
- **Fan speed control**: Raising fan speeds only makes your Mac louder. Puff points you to the cause of the heat instead.
- **A subscription**: Puff is a one-time purchase, and updates are included.
- **Accounts or cloud sync**: Puff runs entirely on your Mac. Nothing to sign up for, nothing leaves it.
