Questions
Is this a system monitor?
Not really — it's a pet. Puff reads the same sensors a system monitor does, but turns them into a mood instead of a graph. If you want numbers, there's a toggle for that.
Why isn't it on the Mac App Store?
Reading fan speeds needs direct access to your Mac's hardware sensors, which the App Store sandbox doesn't allow. Apps like iStat Menus and Vitals are sold outside the store for the same reason. Puff is signed and notarized by Apple, and updates itself.
Will it slow my Mac down?
No. Puff checks your vitals every two seconds and redraws a 20-pixel creature a few times a second. That's roughly 2–3% of a single CPU core — and it stops animating when your screen sleeps.
What does it actually read?
CPU load, fan speed, thermal state, memory pressure, battery level and charging, disk write activity, whether your display is asleep, and whether an app has stopped responding. Nothing leaves your Mac.
How many Macs can I use it on?
